A runaway CTA Blue Line train collided with another Blue Line train on Monday September 30, 2013. The unmanned train traveled from the Forest Park rail yard down nearly a mile of track before striking another Blue Line train near the Harlem Station. The collision sent more than 30 people to area hospitals and left the CTA scrambling for answers and explanations. The event triggered an investigation by the National Transportation Board and a lawsuit by the Kryder Law Group. Andrew Kryder and members of his firm focus their practice in Chicago where they represent clients injured in transportation accidents such as auto, truck, motorcycle and train collisions. Members of the firm are seasoned trial attorneys.
The CTA ultimately suspended a switch man responsible for the the unmanned train. Investigations showed the switch man had been working on the train at the Forrest Park Rail yard and left the train in a powered position. The CTA fired two electrical workers for improperly cleaning the junction box. The CTA admitted that the failure to clean the junction box was at least one cause of the incident.
Attorney, Andrew Kryder represented a passenger on the Blue Line train. A settlement providing just compensation for his client was recently reached with the CTA.
