1. Get a Police Report
Get a Police Report! Regardless who is at fault, it’s essential to contact the police and make absolutely sure that a police report will be filed and that you know how to access it. Explain the circumstances of the auto accident to the police honestly and completely, and make sure that you obtain or know how to get the police report!
2. Who is at Fault?
Don’t Admit Fault! Even if the auto accident is something straightforward like a rear-end collision, don’t admit fault to the other driver, the police, or to your insurance carrier! There are countless circumstances that could impact your case so leave it to your law firm to argue the liability of the collision.
3. Collect Info
Collect Info! There’s no such thing as too much info when you’ve just been in an auto accident. Make sure to get the other driver’s information, including name, contact details, and insurance information. If the other driver doesn’t have proof of insurance, make sure you have accurate contact info. Once you’ve done that, take pictures of everything! The damage to your car, the other vehicle(s), tire skid marks, the condition of the road, license plates, injuries, and traffic signs can all impact your case, so make sure to take plenty of photos. Be sure to note if there are traffic cameras that may have captured your car accident. If there are passengers involved or bystanders who witnessed the crash, make sure to get their information as well.

4. Do you need a doctor?
Go See Your Doctor! Even if you’re just experiencing stiffness in your neck, it’s incredibly important to see your doctor right away. The timing is especially important here, so don’t swing by your doctor’s office in a few weeks — go immediately! Once you’re there, be sure to ask for records.
